Yarmouth, N.S. (July 19, 2024) – The Yarmouth Mariners Hockey Club is proud to announce the signing of Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron. With over 450 MHL wins, 3 MHL Coach of the Year Awards, and 2 MHL Championships in an already storied career, Laurie Barron has become synonymous with junior hockey in southwestern Nova Scotia.
“I’m thrilled and honored to be at the helm of the Yarmouth Mariners for the next 3 seasons. This contract is special because it’s my partners and longtime friends who have entrusted me with the opportunity to guide this storied franchise into the next chapter, and I thank them for their unwavering trust and support. I believe the future is bright in Yarmouth for years to come,” Laurie Barron said.
In addition to Laurie’s accomplishments above, the Kennetcook native has ingrained himself in the community of Yarmouth over two decades. He has raised his family here, along with his wife Jodi, and has become immersed in many local organizations, including founding the Icy Knights Program, which continues to run annually.
“I can’t picture the Yarmouth Mariners without LB. There isn’t a more dedicated coach and person than him, and there’s no one I’d rather have as our Head Coach and General Manager. With both John Murphy and Aaron Boogaard by his side, our players have access to one of the best coaching staffs in the league. LB is someone I have a great deal of admiration and respect for, and I’m excited about the future here in Yarmouth,” added Jared Purdy, Yarmouth Mariners Hockey Club President.
The Yarmouth Mariners begin their 2024/2025 regular season at home on Friday, September 13th, as they welcome the Pictou County Weeks Crushers to the Fish Tank. Puck drops at 7:00 pm.
