Truro, N.S. (February 5, 2020) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) has named Yarmouth Mariners forward Kurtis Lang as Pro Design Cresting Rookie of the Month for January.
The Pro Design Cresting Rookie of the Month for January is Yarmouth Mariners forward Kurtis Lang. The 18-year-old from Hubbards, N.S. posted six goals and four assists in January, moving him into second place in MHL rookie scoring at the end of the month. Lang also had four multi-point games.
He scored the first goal for Yarmouth in 2020, as the Mariners went on to beat the Pictou County Weeks crushers 4-3 at home on January 3rd. After being held scoreless on January 4th, Lang would rebound on the 11th by scoring two of Yarmouth’s three goals in a 5-3 loss to Summerside. The game against the Western Capitals would kick off a five game point streak for the young forward.
On January 18th, Lang had a pair of assists as the Mariners downed Valley 6-3. He posted an assist on the 24th in an 8-2 loss against South Shore. In Truro on the 25th, Lang scored a powerplay goal and added an assist in a 6-0 win over the Bearcats. He rounded out his scoring for the month on the 30th with two goals, including the game winner, in a 6-2 win in New Glasgow over the Crushers.
Among rookies at the end of January, Lang was third in goal scoring with 15 and tied with Campbellton’s Sam McKinney for the third-most assists with 19 in 37 games.
