Mariners to be purchased by Tri-Star Industries, Laurie Barron will return as Head Coach The Yarmouth Jr. A Mariners will have new owners. Team President Mr. Raymond Jacquard announced today that Yarmouth's Mitch Bonnar and Keith Condon of Tri-Star Industries have inked a deal to purchase the franchise. After a series of meetings, a deal has been reached that will see the team placed into the hands of the Yarmouth businessmen effective January 1st 2010.
The deal is pending the approval of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League's Board of Governors who regulates and approves team franchises.
Jacquard reported that he was pleased that ownership of the club will remain local. A few years ago, a group of local citizens stepped up and purchased the team when it was floundering, Jacquard said. We feel the time has come to let the team pass on to new local ownership and the sale of the Mariners to Mr. Bonnar and Mr. Condon is great news for the team and the fans. These gentlemen are able to offer stability and a bright future for continued success.
Mitch Bonnar, who will take on the role of Team President, says "keeping the team in Yarmouth for years to come was a major motivating factor of the purchase. Having a Junior A team in Yarmouth has been great for this community in numerous ways and we are pleased to do our part in ensuring that this fact remains unchanged."
"The current owners need to be commended for keeping Jr A Hockey in Yarmouth for the past few years" added Bonnar. They deserve a lot of credit and it is our intention to continue to provide great hockey entertainment for years to come."
It was also announced that the very popular Laurie Barron will be returning to assume the role of Head Coach on January 2nd as the Mariners host the Summerside Western Capitals for Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon matches. Further, a number of trades are being considered before the January 10th deadline to bolster the team for the rest of this season and next.
